  1. “I’m the best player on the team,” said Jenny. (boasted) 

Jenny boasted that she was the best player on the team./Jenny boasted of/about being the best player on the team.          

  1. “Mrs Smith always gives us a lot of homework,” said Tim. (complained)         
  2. “You broke my window,” the angry neighbour said to the children. (accused)      
  3. “Don’t forget to call Paul,” Tina said to Kim. (reminded)        
  4. “I won’t do it again, Mummy,” the little boy said. (promised)      
  5. “You must finish your homework before you go out with your friends,” Helen’s mother said to her. (insisted)          
  6. “Don’t touch that! The paint is still wet,” said the decorator. (warned)     
  7. Wendy said to the teacher, “Please, please give me another day to finish the project.” (begged)           
  8. “I’m sorry I offended you,” he said. (apologised)    
  9. “I was late because of an accident on the motorway,” he told his boss. (explained)

  1. Tim complained that Mrs Smith always gave them a lot of homework.

Глагол complain требует придаточного предложения с that. Время меняется на Past Simple, местоимения тоже подстраиваются (us => them).  

 

  1. The angry neighbour accused the children of breaking his window.

После accuse часто используется конструкция accuse somebody of + -ing (винить кого-то в чем-то).

 

  1. Tina reminded Kim to call Paul.

Глагол remind требует инфинитива после объекта (to call). 

 

  1. The little boy promised his mother that he wouldn’t do it again.

Глагол promise вводит придаточное предложение с that и меняет время на будущее в прошедшем (would).   

 

  1. Helen’s mother insisted on finishing Helen’s homework before she went out with her friends.

Глагол insist on doing something — настаивать на чем-то.   

 

  1. The decorator warned us not to touch that because the paint was still wet.

Глагол warn (предупреждать) в косвенной речи часто используется с конструкцией warn + объект + to-infinitive или с отрицательной формой warn + объект + not to + глагол. В данном случае после warned стоит местоимение us — это объект, кому адресовано предупреждение.  

 

  1. Wendy begged the teacher to give her another day to finish the project.

Глагол beg требует инфинитива после объекта (to give).

 

  1. He apologised for offending you.

Глагол apologise требует предлога for + герундия.

 

  1. He explained to his boss that he had been late because of an accident on the motorway.

Глагол explain требует объекта (to his boss) и придаточного предложения с that.
